The Board is pleased to announce that the Windsor Land Trust has now joined the Traprock Ridge Land Conservancy. This brings a town that has a history of support for open space preservation into a large conservancy. TRLC now runs from the traprock ridge to the Connecticut River. WLT was formed 20 years ago to “protect open space in Windsor in perpetuity through acquisition, stewardship, education, and advocacy.” This meshes well with the TRLC stated mission: “To protect open space and promote public appreciation of the natural environment across the region – from the ridgeline to the rivers.” WLT did not own land outright, but instead formed a close partnership with the town government and community; this led to the preservation of 180 acres, including a central former golf course of 95 acres, and the preservation of the Mill Brook Corridor, now named an official state greenway.
